Social media has obviously become a key component of the marketing mix in the past few years. A big part of the attraction is the reach and frequency without traditional “placement cost”. In my estimation that sometimes tempts some of us to deviate a bit from our “brand” focus and not think our social media strategy all the way through. Yesterday Entrepreneur, on The Daily Dose blogged some words of caution specifically as it relates to the use of #hashtag.
Two lessons to be learned from the article The 5 Biggest Twitter Marketing Fails of 2012:
- Using hashtags creates an open funnel for your audience to comment both pro and con, quickly and very visible that can backfire and become difficult to manage. Be careful.
