Useless but Entertaining Super Bowl Facts

  • Super Sunday ranks 2nd only to Thanksgiving Day for food consumption in the US.
  • Of the top 44 prime time broadcasts in the US 21 are Super Bowls – The Top 10 broadcasts are:


  • There are more alcohol related  accidents on Super Bowl Sunday than any day of the year aside from St. Patrick’s Day.
  • Players on the winning (NY Giants) team in last year’s Super Bowl XLVI received $88,000 each, losing (NE Patriots) team players received $44,000.
  • The average cost of a 30 second commercial during Super Bowl XLVII will approximate $3.8 million.
  • The game was not called the Super Bowl until the 3rd Super Bowl – NY Jets 16 Baltimore Colts 7 – and was then grandfathered back to Super Bowls I & II, both won by Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers.  The first two Super Bowls were originally billed as The AFL-NFL World Championship Game.
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers have the most wins with 6 (6-2) overall.  The San Francisco 49ers are the only team with multiple wins (5) and no losses.  Regardless of the games outcome there will still be only one team with multiple wins and no losses – either the SF 49ers will tie the Pittsburgh Steelers for most wins (6-0) or the Baltimore Ravens (2-0).
  • The Denver Broncos (2-4), Minnesota Vikings (0-4) and Buffalo Bills (0-4) hold the record for most losses.  The Bills four losses SB XXV (’91) through XXVIII (’94) is also the record for consecutive SB appearances.
